Lori Richards: The Painted Season

Exhibition Dates: December 5-January 3

Artist reception December 5th, 2-4 PM.

In the Artist's Words

I am always looking for ways to interpret the surrounding landscape. These paintings reflect the results of my quest for layered beauty.

From subtle farm-scapes and startling fields of colour, to moody lakeside walks, I pursue abstracted and emotionally charged representations of geographical forms. By experimenting with traditional and mixed media painting techniques, my objective is to remind, surprise, and challenge the viewer to take time to contemplate both art and nature.

When the subject's transition to the tranquil, will-less state of aesthetic contemplation occurs easily, that is, when the objects “meet that state halfway,” becoming “representatives of their Ideas by virtue of their intricate and at the same time clear and determinate form” then the subject experiences the beautiful.

Praise for Richards' Work

Lori Richards’s commitment to painting is immediately evident in the quality and range of her work. Her artistic output is astonishing. Every year, she expands in the depth of her themes, constantly exploring new media and new approaches. She is quite rightly celebrated as reinvigorating the landscape in contemporary Canadian art.
