After a long Ottawa winter Peter Colbert’s latest works evoke clear summer days and crisp, refreshing lakesides. As an impressionistic painter whose works cross into pure abstraction, Colbert believes in the value of creativity and tries to capture the essence or spirit of that which he sees. “To reduce things to their simplest form is a difficult thing to do, but I try to cut to the chase and depict the heart, the energy of a subject.” Colbert’s preference is for simplicity rather than detail, freshness rather than tedium. He attacks the many layers of his acrylic works with a controlled passion built with the maturity of having worked in the visual field for all of his working life.
