Interpreting landscape has always been at the heart of my creative practice.
I paint in a very intuitive way, building up paint on canvas in thin washes then eventually thicker impastos. Experimenting with mediums and glazes and colour upon colour, I add or take away until the feeling seems right. This iterative process is exciting; I begin at one location and the work takes me to a new place — imagined and, at the same time, remembered.
The work is a portal to the interior world of memory and desire, time and place, longing and surrender — illuminating narrative and emotion. In the end there must be an emotional connection to the final painting, for me and for the viewer.
I want my paintings to create an emotional response or connection and bring awareness to the beauty and fragility of the planet.
