"With these works in particular I wanted to focus on materiality and gesture, and the ways in which they can deliberately reveal process in both large, bold gestural movements, or small details. By echoing gestures, colours, patterns and movements throughout different pieces and mediums I want to connect all my work into one body, coming back to the centrality of the process-- which, for me, reflects an all-encompassing, diary-like way of making and a way of literally processing."
Molly Mask is a mixed media artist living and working in Ottawa. Her work is grounded in abstract painting and drawing and extends to installation and assemblage. Interested in craft and design, Mask uses quick, intuitive and bold gestures, which are contrasted with delicate patterning and labored mark making. Her pieces oscillate between very free explorations and carefully considered elements of line and colour. Mask completed her BFA at the University of Ottawa in 2016.
