Nicole Allen is exhibiting Hush, her newest solo exhibition from April 4-25, 2019. Visit the exhibition page here for more details.

Born in Oakville, Ontario, Nicole developed an early appreciation for painting the Canadian landscape from her father. Nicole has an undergraduate degree in Art History from Queen’s University, and an honours diploma in Applied Museum Studies from Algonquin College. After working in the Art Rental and Sales industry in Victoria, B.C., Nicole and her husband Jeff settled in Ottawa in 1997 and have two wonderful teenaged kids. Over the years, Nicole has consistently developed her painting and figurative skills through her studies at the Ottawa School of Art and local artists groups.

In 2010, Nicole began exhibiting her work in the Ottawa region and now paints full time at her studio as a member of The Loft Artists collective. She loves exhibiting her work at art fairs throughout Ontario, and her paintings are held in private collections within Canada, the U.S. and Europe.

Artist Statement

Hush speaks to the unspoken conversations flowers hold as we carry them over the threshold of the home and into our lives. As they fill a room with their bright colours and layered airiness, they silently wait for our attention, for our gaze to fulfill our end of the relationship - and listen. While ephemeral in nature, the flower can contain multitudes, entire speeches intended to convey our potentially never-ending feelings. The thought and gravity we imbue in flowers show their importance to us socially, and this is what gives them their second life. A life after being cut from the stalk, and a life long after the last petal wilts.
